Putting Down Roots in The Ridges | Our Life Magazine Feature

After moving to The Ridges from Texas, the Cradick family may have had to adjust a bit to the colder winter weather, but they are fitting in just fine. The family moved to Omaha from Houston, TX in August of 2014.

Matt, originally from Lincoln, wanted to get back to the Midwest to be near family and to put down roots for the kids. Matt has three daughters. The oldest, Kendall, is 10 and in 5th grade at Spring Ridge. Also attending the same school is her seven year old sister Hayden in 2nd grade. The youngest of the bunch is Emmerson, five years old who will be entering kindergarten this school year.

Having spent the last 20 years of his career in the retail sector, Matt decided it was time to head back to Nebraska and made the choice to call Omaha “home”. While Matt enjoyed working in Retail, he notes “It offered significant opportunities throughout the years, but with every promotion there was always a move involved.” Throughout the years, the Cradicks have lived in Missouri, Illinois, New York, Wisconsin, California, Florida and Texas. Each of the daughters was born in a different state.  “I knew another move was on the horizon and said enough is enough. I needed to stabilize the kids. Growing up in the Midwest, I prefer the values of the Midwest culture. This final move has also allowed us to be closer to family.  The girls are finally able to see their grandparents and cousins on a regular basis.”  Matt and his family have purchased a local business in order to put down roots in the area. Matt is the new owner of Husker Hammer Siding, Windows and Roofing in Elkhorn. Excited about his new venture, Matt notes that the business started in 1998 as a one man show and throughout the years has built up a strong reputation in Western Douglas County.

The family has already developed some close relationships within the community. The girls have all made friends with several others in their neighborhood and at school. “We love the Elkhorn school system.  People have been overly nice and right away we have more of a circle of kids their age than we’ve ever had previously,” he shared. “We couldnt be happier.”

The family enjoys being active and are members at a local country club and YMCA. They typically have a family movie night each week with some of the recent holiday favorites including Elf, Christmas Vacation and The Polar Express. The family is also actively involved with the Bethany Lutheran Church on 204th Street in Elkhorn.

A family vacation to Florida is on the agenda for the crew. They will be heading back to visit friends in Orlando soon. The girls always make sure to visit Lego Land which even beat out Disney World as their favorite stop in the area. Matt tries to squeeze in some golf while he’s in the warmer climate as well.

Around Omaha, Matt tries to hit the links when he gets the chance.  With a 7.7 handicap, he strives to get out a few times per month.

“I’ve been playing golf for 30 years. I didn’t play in high school or college. I wish I would have. I played baseball, basketball and football in high school and baseball in college.”

While Matt may sometimes feel outnumbered with three girls in the home, the family dog Benney brings the male population up to two.  Benney was adopted from the Lincoln Humane Society while the family was back for a visit from Houston a year ago. “We had no intention of getting a dog that trip,” Matt said. The four-year-old pup is a mix breed with a little Yorkie and Cairn terrier in him.  The family agrees that Benney is closest to Hayden, but they all take really good care of him and take him for walks, but the yard clean-up is reserved for Dad.

Welcome to the neighborhood Cradick Family! We are happy to have you here.
